Tuesday Evening Kicker: 2021 Week 2 Recap

Week 2’s action saw Nagasaki gain a measure of revenge against San Juan. The Squirrels, Grainers, and Ewoks routed their competition and Jamaica and Russia held off their opponents for their first victories.

Kamikazes fly circles around Scorpions; win Super Bowl rematch

Nagasaki Kamikazes 219.43, San Juan Scorpions 169.27 — In a rematch of last year’s Super Bowl, the Kamikazes gained a measure of revenge with a resounding 50-point victory over the defending champion Scorpions. Derrick Henry shook off his Week 1 rust and exploded for 54.7 points to lead Nagasaki. Kyler Murray continued his hot start by posting 38.68 points. Travis Kelce racked up 28.9 points while Diontae Johnson picked up 25. Terry McLaurin’s 34.7 early points were not enough to earn the Scorpions the win. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers racked up 25.55 points. Quarterback Josh Allen added 20.72 points and receiver Stefon Diggs tallied 19.5. Next Week: Nagasaki will look to make it three in a row when they face Jamaica. San Juan will try to get back on track against division rival Ecuador.

Grains ground the Blitz

Ukraine Grainers 182.93, Bangkok Blitz 146.2 — Ukraine handed the Blitz a second-straight loss in the midst of a great rebound victory. Receiver Courtland Sutton blew up for 30.4 points to lead the team to victory. Christian McCaffrey had his usual big performance with 29.5 points. Russell Wilson tallied 27.13 points while Julio Jones finished with 22.8. For the Blitz, they continued to post strong numbers — from the bench. Last week they left 78 points on the bench. This week, it was 73. Tyler Lockett continued to explode with 36.55 points to lead the team in the loss. Austin Ekeler added 24.3 points while Darren Waller notched 14.75. Next Week: Ukraine will take on division rival — and first place leader — Switzerland. Bangkok will try to get their first victory when they take on Russia.

Pharaohs can’t catch the Squirrels

Switzerland Squirrels 189.2, Egypt Pharaohs 143.33 — Don’t look now, but these aren’t your Squirrels of yesteryear. Switzerland blew up the scoreboard again while posting a huge victory over Egypt. Running back Aaron Jones (44.9) and receiver Cooper Kupp (43.75) both posted north of 40 points to lead the charge. Tom Brady staved off old age again, dropping 33 points. Receiver Adam Thielen notched 19.15 points. Egypt got 27.93 points from Patrick Mahomes in the loss. Sterling Shepard finished with 22.2 points while Deebo Samuel added 20. Next Week: Switzerland will try to make it three in a row when they take on division rival Ukraine. Egypt looks to rebound when they face South foe Turkey.

Russian past the Jerky: Renegades outlast Turkey

Russia Renegades 183.42, Turkey Jerky 164.48 — Russia found their offense in a rebound victory over Turkey. Lamar Jackson posted 38.37 points in the win. Receivers Calvin Ridley (23.3), CeeDee Lamb (22.35) and Justin Jefferson (22) put up strong numbers as well. Rookie Najee Harris tallied 21.1 points. For the Jerky, Teddy Bridgewater led the way with 26.33 points. Davante Adams added 24.85 points, Darrell Henderson notched 19.8 and Robert Tonyan pitched in 16.45. Next Week: Russia faces a tough battle against the Blitz. Turkey takes on division foe Egypt.

Jerks hold off the Wookiees

Jamaica Jerks 149.9, Wake Island Wookiees 135.67 — Jamaica squeaked out a close victory over Wake Island led by a strong effort from Mike Evans, who tallied 29.25 points. Rob Gronkowski continued to play impressively, finishing this week with 22.15 points. Dalvin Cook added 21.2 points while Keenan Allen finished with 18.8. For the Wookiees, tight end T.J. Hockenson led the way with 24.85 points. Marvin Jones finished with 21.25 points and Matthew Stafford added 20.52. Next Week: Jamaica faces a tough test against Nagasaki. Wake Island looks to rebound in a gimme against Christmas Island.

E-walkin’ all over the Crabs: Ecuador knocks off Christmas Island

Ecuador Ewoks 160.12, Christmas Island Crabs 116.03 — Ecuador took the small opening that Christmas Island gave them and busted it wide open in a resounding, 44-point victory. Receiver Brandin Cooks tallied 28.3 points to lead the way. The Chicago Bears added 26.7 points, Ezekiel Elliott notched 20.9 points and Ryan Tannehill finished with 18.82. For the Crabs, Chris Godwin led the way with 19.45 points, followed by Ben Roethlisberger with 18.58 and Daniel Carlson with 18.5. Next Week: Ecuador will face San Juan in a tough division battle while Christmas Island takes on East rival Wake Island.
