Tuesday Evening Kicker: 2020 Week 5 Recap

The red-hot Pharaohs led the league in scoring for the second straight week and took down the last remaining unbeaten team in the process. The Renegades knocked off the defending champion Crabs while the Blitz eked out a 4-point victory over Jamaica. Nagasaki survived a shorthanded battle with Switzerland. Meanwhile, Ecuador and Ukraine routed their competition.

Pharaohs topple the Scorpions, end San Juan’s unblemished record

Egypt Pharaohs 203.23, San Juan Scorpions 179.92 — The Pharaohs stayed on fire for the second straight week, this time knocking off the last unbeaten team, San Juan. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes led the way with 33.13 points. Wide Receiver Jamison Crowder put up 30.1 points. Receivers Darius Slayton (27.15) and Robby Anderson (25.45) were big contributors as well. For the Scorpions, receiver DK Metcalf led the team with 33.05 points. Running backs Myles Gaskin (22.3) and Alvin Kamara (22.1) scored big in the loss. Quarterback Josh Allen had a mild week for his standards with 20.87. Next Week: Egypt will try to make it four victories in a row when they take on Ecuador. San Juan will look to bounce back with a game against the Blitz.

Renegades crunch the Crabs

Russia Renegades 192.05, Christmas Island Crabs 174.98 — The Renegades knocked off the defending champion Crabs behind a big effort from their backs and receivers. Running backs Josh Jacobs (27.1) and Kareem Hunt (22.3), as well as receivers Calvin Ridley (27.1), CeeDee Lamb (26.15), and Allen Robinson (25.5) all scored big in the victory. For the Crabs, the Ravens defense led the way with 32.45 points. Quarterback Russell Wilson kept rolling with 27.03 points. Running Back Miles Sanders (26.1) and wide receiver D.J. Moore (22.55) were instrumental as well. Next Week: Russia tries to pull even to .500 when they face Wake Island. Christmas Island will try to do the same when they face Switzerland.

Blitz stave off Jerks’ comeback attempt, but lose Prescott in process

Bangkok Blitz 141.68, Jamaica Jerks 137.9 — Last week, the Blitz earned a hard-fought comeback victory. This week, they resisted one, securing a four-point victory over Jamaica. The Blitz lost quarterback Dak Prescott in the process, though. Tight End Jonnu Smith led the team with 24.25 points. Prescott scored 17.23 points before exiting while running back Jonathan Taylor added 17.8. For the Jerks, running backs Dalvin Cook (23.3), Chris Carson (21.5), and Devonta Freeman (20.1) scored big in the loss. Receiver Laviska Shenault pitched in with 19.9. Next Week: Bangkok does battle with San Juan. Jamaica looks to rebound in a contest with Turkey.

Ewoks flatten the Jerky in resounding victory

Ecuador Ewoks 179, Turkey Jerky 116.35 — Ecuador scored a huge victory over the shorthanded Jerky, who were battling bye weeks and COVID postponements. Receiver Brandin Cooks led the way for the Ewoks with 36.1 points. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill had a big week with 31.75 points. Running Back Ezekiel Elliott followed up with 27.3 points. For the Jerky, quarterback Jared Goff scored 27.15 points to lead the team in the loss. Running Back Derrick Henry tallied 23.1 points while receiver Mike Evans finished with 18.35. Next Week: Ecuador will try to keep it rolling when they face Egypt. Turkey will take on Jamaica.

Bye Week Bombardment? No bother. Kamikazes bypass the Squirrels

Nagasaki Kamikazes 169.92, Switzerland Squirrels 158.48 — With five players on a bye week, the Kamikazes leaned even more heavily on their starters to make up for their reserves, and they didn’t disappoint. Quarterback Kyler Murray scored 32.32 points while tight end Travis Kelce added 30.3 to lead the way for Nagasaki. Receivers DeAndre Hopkins (29.35) and A.J. Brown (26.95) had big performances as well. Switzerland got 36.25 points from receiver Adam Thielen in the loss. Quarterback Gardner Minshew tallied 23.38 points while tight end Mark Andrews finished with 22.35. Next Week: Nagasaki will square off against Ukraine in the battle of preseason favorites. Switzerland will seek brighter fortunes against Christmas Island.

Grainers grind short-handed Wookiees

Ukraine Gainers 184.72, Wake Island Wookiees 99.33 — Ukraine nearly lapped the Wookiees in scoring with a resounding 85-point victory. The Wookiees played shorthanded with just 7 starters. Quarterback Deshaun Watson put up 27.12 points in Ukraine’s victory. Receivers Marquise Brown (25) and Tyreek Hill (21.9), and running back David Montgomery (20.9) all were instrumental in the win. Running Backs Mike Davis (33.1) and Todd Gurley (27.8) scored big for the Wookiees in the loss. Unfortunately, the team received little help from their remaining starters. Next Week: Ukraine takes on Nagasaki in what should be a high-scoring battle. Wake Island tries to recover when they face Russia.
