2020 MFFL Draft Recap

The Bangkok Blitz made Clyde Edwards-Helaire the number one draft pick in the 2020 MFFL Draft. CEH was the first of five running backs taken by the Blitz.

Round 1, Pick 1: Bangkok Blitz — Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB/KC
The reclamation project continues for the Blitz, who select a dynamic running back they hope can lead them into 2020 and beyond. CEH offers a combination of versatility, elusiveness and pass-catching and should become a leader of the team soon.

Round 1, Pick 2: Bangkok Blitz — Jonathan Taylor, RB/IND
The Blitz snag one of the most talented and productive college backs to beef up their backfield. A real workhorse, Taylor and CEH should guide the Blitz back to prominence for years to come.

Round 1, Pick 3: Christmas Island Crabs — D’Andre Swift, RB/DET
The Crabs traded their way up to Pick 3 and landed one of the highest graded running backs in the draft class. The defending champions are hoping to strike gold for the second straight year in the 3 slot, a year after landing Miles Sanders.

Round 1, Pick 4: Bangkok Blitz — J.K. Dobbins, RB/BAL
The Blitz have to be excited about their 2020 haul. Joining CEH and Taylor, the explosive J.K. Dobbins will become the third head of the running back monster. Bangkok will officially become “RB-U” by 2021, if not the end of 2020.

Round 1, Pick 5: Ukraine Grainers — Cam Akers, RB/LAR
The Grainers already possessed the deepest backfield stable in the MFFL before Draft Day, but that didn’t stop them from scooping up another. Akers is an exciting prospect who has the opportunity to grow into a 3-down player for an explosive offense.

Round 1, Pick 6: Russia Renegades — CeeDee Lamb, WR/DAL
In a deep receiver class, the Renegades may have nabbed the cream of the crop. An explosive playmaker with a good catch radius who is dangerous after the catch, Lamb will offer even more depth to the Renegades’ receiving corps.

Round 1, Pick 7: Russia Renegades — Jerry Jeudy, WR/DEN
Regarded as one of the finest route runners and creators of separation to come out of college in a few years, Jeudy presents another nice target to the Renegades’ receiving corps.

Round 1, Pick 8: San Juan Scorpions — Jalen Reagor, WR/PHI
The Scorpions’ youth movement at the receiver position continues from last year. Reagor is a multidimensional weapon with tremendous speed who figures to see a lot of action in the Scorpions’ offense.

Round 1, Pick 9: Russia Renegades — Justin Jefferson, WR/MIN
Jefferson is a polished receiver, pro-ready and one of the best slot wideouts in the draft class. He should see an opportunity to contribute early in his career with the Renegades.

Round 1, Pick 10: Russia Renegades — Michael Pittman, WR/IND
The Renegades continued to add depth to their receiver position. Pittman, who landed in a position to contribute right away, is a tall target who can win jump balls and make plays after the catch.

Round 1, Pick 11: Bangkok Blitz — Ke’Shawn Vaughn, RB/TB
The Blitz added a Fourth Horseman to the stable of running backs with the selection of Vaughn. The Vanderbilt product is a jack of all trades who landed in a nice spot and could be a surprise contributor early in his career.

Round 1, Pick 12: Russia Renegades — Tee Higgins, WR/CIN
The Renegades completed their basketball starting lineup of wide receivers with the selection of Higgins. The Clemson receiver has great height and ball skills to win in contested situations, but might have to develop in the Corral first.

Round 2, Pick 13: Ukraine Grainers — Henry Ruggs, WR/LV
Cheetah Part 2? The Grainers’ receiving corps, led in part by Tyreek Hill, added even more speed with the addition of Ruggs. The Alabama product quite literally is a threat to score any time he touches the ball and from anywhere on the field.

Round 2, Pick 14: Jamaica Jerks — Joe Burrow, QB/CIN
The Jerks looked to beef up their quarterback depth chart and perhaps secure their long-term solution at the position by selecting the top quarterback in the draft. Burrow is about as pro-ready as rookies get and could push for playing time in Year 1.

Round 2, Pick 15: Ukraine Grainers — Brandon Aiyuk, WR/SF
Add another wide receiver to the Grainers’ depth chart. Aiyuk has the wingspan of a jet and is nicknamed the YAK – Yards After King – for his ability to make plays with the ball in his hands.

Round 2, Pick 16: Switzerland Squirrels — Zack Moss, RB/BUF
The Squirrels added some much needed running back depth with the selection of the bowling ball, Moss. The Utah back punishes defenders with a physical style of play and should find a role early on.

Round 2, Pick 17: Ukraine Grainers — Denzel Mims, WR/NYJ
With the selection of Mims, the Grainers have added a 10th receiver to its roster. Mims is a fast, tall specimen who will be tough for smaller corners to handle and could emerge as a go-to target as soon as this season.

Round 2, Pick 18: Jamaica Jerks — Laviska Shenault, WR/JAX
The Jerks landed a versatile playmaker in Shenault who can line up all over the field and cause matchup problems for defenses. He can run the Wildcat, line up in the backfield or spread out wide. He’s also a tough competitor.

Round 2, Pick 19: San Juan Scorpions — A.J. Dillon, RB/GB
Built like a truck but moves like a sedan, Dillon is almost assuredly in line for some early red zone action with the potential to be a workhorse as his career moves on. The Scorpions added some needed depth at the running back position.

Round 2, Pick 20: San Juan Scorpions — Darrynton Evans, RB/TEN
The Scorpions added another running back with the second of their back-to-back picks. Evans is an elusive playmaker with pass-catching ability who should see a small role in that department early, and is just one injury away from posting big numbers.

Round 2, Pick 21: Christmas Island Crabs — Bryan Edwards, WR/LV
A broken foot training for the Combine may have cost him draft stock, but the defending champions may have landed a future stud. Edwards has an awesome combination of size, speed and hands and can make spectacular catches.

Round 2, Pick 22: Bangkok Blitz — Antonio Gibson, RB/WAS
The Blitz continue stockpiling running backs as they have now selected their fifth. Gibson is a Swiss Army knife who can play both running back and receiver and will surely find a role as a pass-catcher in some capacity.

Round 2, Pick 23: Ecuador Ewoks — Cole Kmet, TE/CHI
The Ewoks land the top tight end in the draft. The Norte Dame product figures to work his way into an important role as a pass catcher that can separate and find space in the defense on the second level.

Round 2, Pick 24: Nagasaki Kamikazes — Antonio Gandy-Golden, WR/WAS
AGG was a freak of nature in college, combining size and strength with some special catches. If and when he can adjust to improved strength and athleticism from pro corners, he could be a real find.

Round 3, Pick 25: Nagasaki Kamikazes — Joshua Kelley, RB/LAC
The Kamikazes scooped up a back who has the potential to compete for and earn meaningful carries. Kelley is a physical, downhill runner who could earn more snaps and carries late in games if the team gets out ahead.

Round 3, Pick 26: Nagasaki Kamikazes — Devin Duvernay, WR/BAL
Speed kills, and the Kamikazes got themselves a burner. Duvernay is a slot receiver who can take a quick pass and turn it into 6, or he can take the top off a defense. He should compete for playing time right away, but will also earn more reps in the future.

Round 3, Pick 27: Russia Renegades — Tua Tagovailoa, QB/MIA
The Renegades added some long-term depth to the quarterback position with the selection of Tagovailoa. The Alabama product is a dual-threat, proven winner who is pro ready. Durability is his biggest concern, but if and when he is healthy, he should be ready to compete if called upon.

Round 3, Pick 28: Nagasaki Kamikazes — Chase Claypool, WR/PIT
The Kamikazes snag a talented prospect in Claypool who presents a big target and likely will get red zone looks early in his career. If he can develop a rapport with the quarterback, he will be a tough cover for smaller cornerbacks.

Round 3, Pick 29: Nagasaki Kamikazes — Van Jefferson, WR/LAR
A smooth route runner with NFL pedigree, Jefferson could be a nice third-round find for the Kamikazes. He does not have top end speed, but he creates separation. He has minimal competition for snaps, so he could be a contributor by midseason, but certainly by Year 2.

Round 3, Pick 30: Nagasaki Kamikazes — Adam Trautman, TE/NO
A small-school prospect with big play potential, Trautman could be a sleeper. He got drafted into a high-powered offense so there is optimism for his ability. How well he transitions against better competition in the pros will determine just how valuable he becomes.

Round 3, Pick 31: Russia Renegades — Justin Herbert, QB/LAC
The Renegades took another quarterback with their second third round pick, filling up the depth chart behind Lamar Jackson. Herbert has size, mobility and a big arm and has draft capital on his side.

Round 3, Pick 32: Egypt Pharaohs — La’Mical Perine, RB/NYJ
The Pharaohs add to their running back depth chart with the selection of Perine. The Florida back is a patient runner with good vision. He is considered a hard worker with good instincts. He will start off as a backup but has complementary potential in the future.

Round 3, Pick 33: Christmas Island Crabs — K.J. Hamler, WR/DEN
In Hamler, the Crabs appear to have found a dynamite playmaker with the speed to burn defenses that focus on other options. The one big problem Hamler faces is opportunity. But should he ever carve out a specific and defined role, he could provide some reliable depth.

Round 3, Pick 34: Egypt Pharaohs — Anthony McFarland, RB/PIT
The Pharaohs addressed the running back position for a second time in Round 3 with the selection of McFarland. The Maryland back is an explosive, home-run hitter who could factor into the passing game. He has had a run of injuries, but if he stays healthy, there is definite upside there.

Round 3, Pick 35: Ukraine Grainers — Lynn Bowden, RB/LV
The Grainers addressed the running back position with their final selection of the draft. Bowden is as athletic and versatile as they come and is a dream for a creative offensive coordinator. He might not see a lot of touches initially, but he’s an injury away from making some noise.

Round 3, Pick 36: Russia Renegades — Jordan Love, QB/GB
The Renegades completed the hat trick on quarterbacks in the third round with the selection of Love. As the 2020 Mr. Irrelevant, he quite possibly will be that for at least half his rookie contract. An injury or a trade, though, could vault him back to relevancy.
