The North and East Divisions showed their power during the Wild Card Round of the 2019 MFFL playoffs. Ukraine and Russia fought off fourth-quarter comeback attempts from San Juan and Jamaica, respectively. The two North Division foes will square off in the Northwest Conference Championship game next week. Meanwhile, Nagasaki blew past Wake Island while Christmas Island used a late-game surge to surpass Egypt. The East Division rivals will battle in the Southeast Conference title game.

Step aside, Champs

Ukraine Grainers 162.33, San Juan Scorpions 139.22 — There will be no repeat this year as Ukraine knocked off defending champion San Juan in Round 1. Deshaun Watson powered the Grainers with 34.33 points. Running backs Christian McCaffrey (26.7) and Todd Gurley (25.9) also paved the way to success. San Juan picked up 32.1 points from tight end Zach Ertz while wide receiver Robert Woods finished with 26.1. The normally reliable Josh Allen finished with just 12.42 points. Next Week: Ukraine will host Russia in the Northwest Conference title game.

Crabs raid the tombs, take down the Pharaohs

Christmas Island Crabs 157.02, Egypt Pharaohs 142.53 — Christmas Island tallied 22 fourth-quarter points to bury the Pharaohs and advance to the next round of the playoffs. Running back Austin Ekeler exploded for 32.9 points in the victory. Wide receiver Michael Thomas racked up 30.4 points and Kenny Golladay notched 17.8. For the Pharaohs, running back Joe Mixon led the way with 32.2 points while wide receiver Robby Anderson finished with 25.2 points in the loss. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes finished with 19.73. Next Week: Christmas Island advances to the Southeast Conference Championship to play Nagasaki.

Russian past the Jerks

Russia Renegades 173.83, Jamaica Jerks 141.1 — Running backs DeAndre Washington (24.4) and Melvin Gordon (21.8) scored big for the Renegades while quarterback Lamar Jackson added 23.03 as Russia advanced past Jamaica. Wide receivers DeAndre Hopkins (26.4) and Allen Robinson (21.8) were key contributors as well. Wide receiver Julian Edelman (24.5) and quarterback Carson Wentz (23.98) were the big scorers for Jamaica. The normally dynamic backfield of Dalvin Cook (19.1) and Leonard Fournette (12.3) were held in check. Next Week: Russia travels to Ukraine to take on the Grainers in the Northwest Conference Championship.

Kamikazes blow up the Wookiees

Nagasaki Kamikazes 172.17, Wake Island Wookiees 112.43 — Behind 34.4 points from running back Aaron Jones, the Kamikazes decimated the Wookiees to advance to the conference title game. The Pittsburgh Steelers added 28.85 points while quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick finished with 20.32. Quarterback Drew Brees scored more than a third of the Wookiees’ points as he finished with 40.18. Kicker Wil Lutz (14.3) and the New England Patriots defense (13.65) were the other top scorers. Next Week: Nagasaki will play Christmas Island for the Southeast Conference Championship.
