(analysis from post-auction results, before any trades were made)

Grades and analysis are largely based upon statistical projections with a touch of subjective reasoning sprinkled throughout.

Criteria for grading includes:

  • Projected points per player signed.
  • Projected points per dollar spent.
  • Projected points per projected starter.
  • Projected points per skill position player (which leaves out kickers and defenses, as their points-per-dollar cost deceptively inflates metrics).

*PPD = points per dollar

Turkey Jerky — A

After landing the top pick in the MFFL draft, the Jerky had themselves quite the auction as well. With 12 roster spots to fill, Turkey walked away filling half of those with starters — most amongst any team in the league. They also finished with the highest points-per-player average as well as points per skill position player.
Best Value: Tom Brady, QB/NE ($1.50 / 193.86 PPD)
Most Questionable: Tevin Coleman, RB/SF ($11.25 / 16.51 PPD)

Russia Renegades — A

The Renegades had the most — and spent the most — in the 2019 MFFL Auction. They filled their roster with five potential starters (second-most in the MFFL) and tallied the highest points per starter as well as the most overall skill position points.
Best Value: Cole Beasley, WR/BUF ($0.25 / 383.56 PPD)
Most Questionable: Derrick Henry, RB/TEN ($8.25 / 27.22 PPD)

Egypt Pharaohs — A-

Egypt had 13 spots to fill on their roster and filled them with the most total projected points in the league. They landed five potential starters and recorded the fourth-most projected points per dollar spent. They also finished fourth in points per skill position player.
Best Value: Ted Ginn, WR/NO ($0.75 / 163.19 PPD)
Most Questionable: Mark Ingram, RB/BAL ($7.75 / 25.54 PPD)

Ecuador Ewoks — A-

Ecuador entered the auction with among the most cash to spend — and they needed all of it to secure the rights to David Johnson. Still, with limited funds available, the Ewoks made the most of what they had. Ecuador finished second in points-per-skill-position-player and third in points-per-starter, thanks in large part to Johnson’s projections. The Ewoks also finished fourth in points per player signed.
Best Value: Philip Rivers, QB/LAC ($0.75 / 396.45 PPD)
Most Questionable: David Johnson, RB/ARI ($26.00 / 10.94 PPD)

Nagasaki Kamikazes — B

The Kamikazes did actually quite well if not for one contract that the “experts” didn’t seem to like. Chris Carson’s $16.25 salary was ranked as one of the lowest points per dollar contract signed in the auction. That gave Nagasaki the lowest overall points per dollar spent on the day. But what’s money when you have lots of it? Aside from that, the Kamikazes finished second in projected points per starter, and fifth in both projected points per player and points per skill player.
Best Value: Marquez Valdes-Scantling, WR/GB ($2.25 / 66.1 PPD)
Most Questionable: Chris Carson, RB/SEA ($16.25 / 8.35 PPD)

Jamaica Jerks — B

The Jerks walked into the auction with pennies in their pockets and left with a good return on their investment. Thanks, in large part, to two kickers and a quarterback, the Jerks finished second in points per dollar spent. They finished seventh in both points per player and points per skill position player. What hurt them was projected points per starter, which landed them fourth from the bottom.
Best Value: Phillip Dorsett, WR/NE ($0.25 / 600.84 PPD)
Most Questionable: Elijah McGuire, RB/NYJ ($0.25 / 0 PPD)

Ukraine Grainers — B

The Grainers entered Auction Day with the cake already baked — they just had to add the icing. As such, they netted only one projected starter. But they finished fifth in points per starter and sixth in points per dollar spent. They finished tied for eighth in points per player and skill position player, thanks to another contract flop — albeit a cheaper one — for Jerick McKinnon.
Best Value: Darren Waller, TE/OAK ($0.25 / 369.32 PPD)
Most Questionable: Jerick McKinnon, RB/SF ($1.50 / 0 PPD)

Switzerland Squirrels — B-

Switzerland was hit hard on points per dollar spent as Lamar Miller hit the IR as well as the handcuff they selected for Leonard Fournette (whom they later traded), Alfred Blue. Saving their auction was the addition of Robert Woods, who increased their points per starter average, as well as Derek Carr, who was the best deal of the auction according to projected points per dollar spent.
Best Value: Derek Carr, QB/OAK ($0.25 / 1088.24 PPD)
Most Questionable: Lamar Miller, RB/HOU ($5.50 / 0 PPD)

Bangkok Blitz — B-

Bangkok entered the auction with the most spots to fill on their roster (14). They filled those with six starters — tied for most in the MFFL. Among the starters, they finished fourth in projected points, thanks to landing good deals on Todd Gurley and Stefon Diggs. What hurt the Blitz were the bottom of the roster players who caused them to fall to third-worst in points per player and points per skill position player. The Blitz walked away from the auction with the most cash available, so perhaps not shopping from the bargain bin would have been a better strategy (just giving the new ownership a hard time).
Best Value: Jalen Richard, RB/OAK ($0.25 / 672.64 PPD)
Most Questionable: Raheem Mostert, RB/SF ($0.25 / 8.36 PPD)

Wake Island Wookiees — C+

The Wookiees are returning much of the roster that helped them finish third in points scored last year, thus only had 9 spots to fill on auction day. Wake Island spent wisely, finishing third in points per dollar spent. Unfortunately for them, most of those deals came from quarterback, kicker and defense as the Wookiees finished ninth in both points per player and points per skill position player. What really hurt the Wookiees was that they finished last in projected points per starter.
Best Value: Taylor Gabriel, WR/CHI ($0.50 / 275.78 PPD)
Most Questionable: Eric Ebron, TE/IND ($8.25 / 14.99 PPD)

San Juan Scorpions — C+

The defending champions had little work to do, save for filling in the cracks. They entered the auction with little money to spend but among the fewest spots to fill. The Scorpions spent an astonishing $4 at the draft but got the most bang for their buck, finishing first in the league in points per dollar spent. However, much of that bargain came from quarterback, kicker and defense as the Scorpions finished last in projected points per skill position player. Fortunately for the champs, their skill position players who led them to a championship remain on the roster.
Best Value: Danny Amendola, WR/DET ($0.25 / 472.12 PPD)
Most Questionable: Ryquell Armstead, RB/JAX ($0.50 / 25.75 PPD)

Christmas Island Crabs — C-

The Crabs had a little bit of trouble filling out the bottom of their roster, ultimately sliding their auction grade down the charts. Mike Weber was cut and landed on a practice squad. Rodney Anderson tore his ACL and is out for the season. Equanimeous St. Brown suffered a high-ankle sprain and likewise had his season ended. And rookie receiver Kelvin Harmon has not received any love from the experts. All four players have tanked any goodwill the Crabs had going for them with the signings of Damien Williams, Tyler Boyd and Tyler Lockett.
Best Value: Trey Quinn, WR/WAS ($0.25 / 468.16 PPD)
Most Questionable: Damien Williams, RB/KC ($14.25 / 19.06 PPD)
