Tuesday Evening Kicker: 2018 Week 1 Recap

Week 1 offered quite a bit of action with some surprises, some expected outcomes and a whole lot of intrigue. The heavily-favored Scorpions coasted to victory over Turkey, the Kamikazes defeated the Renegades in a Super Bowl rematch, the Blitz edged past the Jerks, the Crabs looked impressive in a win over the Grainers, Egypt picked up a victory over Ecuador, and the Wake Island Wookiees — winless in 2017 — scored a huge win over the Squirrels.

Nagasaki Kamikazes 182.90, Russia Renegades 151.77 — In a rematch of the 2017 Super Bowl, the defending champion Russia Renegades were expecting a difficult day from Le’Veon Bell. Instead, they got a dose of some guy named Kenny Stills. For the Kamikazes, the Pittsburgh Steelers scored a remarkable 32.27 points, Joe Mixon erupted for 29.30 points, and Kenny Stills propelled the team with 26.60 points. For the Renegades, Michael Thomas poured it on with 37.00 points, Odell Beckham dropped 22.20 points, and the Tennessee Titans ponied up 20.47 points. Next week: Nagasaki will host Jamaica and they open as a 60-point favorite. Russia will travel to Bangkok and they open as a 20-point favorite.

Egypt edges Ezekiel Elliott’s Ecuador Ewoks

Egypt Pharaohs 129.02, Ecuador Ewoks 102.22 — The Pharaohs kicked off the 2018 campaign with a much-needed win against a young Ewoks team, doing it mostly with defense and special teams. For the Pharaohs, the Los Angeles Rams picked up 23.60 points, Jay Ajayi chipped in 23.20 points, and Greg Zuerlein slugged out 15.30 points. For the Ewoks, Golden Tate mopped up with 20.90 points, Ezekiel Elliott pitched in with 20.60 points, and the New England Patriots gathered 18.20 points. Next week: Egypt will host Ukraine and they open as a 8-point underdog. Ecuador will travel to Christmas Island and they open as a 57-point underdog.

Scorpions feast on Turkey

San Juan Scorpions 181.46, Turkey Jerky 112.73 — Widely projected to be one of this year’s foremost title contenders, the San Juan Scorpions cruised to a big Week 1 victory over Turkey Jerky. For the Scorpions, Alvin Kamara hyped the crowd with 44.70 points, the Minnesota Vikings amassed 28.33 points, and Kirk Cousins wrapped up with 22.53 points. For the Jerky, Philip Rivers flared up for 32.63 points, the Baltimore Ravens pounded out 29.40 points, and Carlos Hyde dropped 17.90 points. Next week: San Juan will travel to Wake Island and they open as a 26-point favorite. Turkey will host Switzerland and they open as a 20-point underdog.

Blitz bang out a close victory over the Jerks

Bangkok Blitz 131.85, Jamaica Jerks 123.08 — Bangkok found a way to contain most of Jamaica’s offensive attack, but they just didn’t have an answer for Tyreek Hill. Fortunately for Bangkok, they got just enough offense to pull out the Week 1 victory. For the Blitz, Todd Gurley got the team going with 27.70 points, Andrew Luck pounded out 26.28 points, and DeAndre Hopkins accrued 15.30 points. For the Jerks, Tyreek Hill stomped the competition on the way to 42.70 points, the Philadelphia Eagles chipped in 22.73 points, and Lamar Miller busted out 15.90 points. Next week: Bangkok will host Russia and they open as a 20-point underdog. Jamaica will travel to Nagasaki and they open as a 60-point underdog.

A very Crabby Christmas comes early for Ukraine

Christmas Island Crabs 159.41, Ukraine Grainers 137.47 — The newly-branded Christmas Island Crabs exploded for 159 points in a huge Week 1 victory over the Grainers. For the Crabs, Melvin Gordon outpaced the competition with 30.60 points, Mike Evans plowed the way with 27.70 points, and Dion Lewis racked up 25.20 points. For the Grainers, Keenan Allen ponied up 24.80 points, Cam Newton put up 24.02 points, and Jarvis Landry notched 17.60 points. Next week: Christmas Island will host Ecuador and they open as a 57-point favorite. Ukraine will travel to Egypt and they open as a 8-point favorite.

Whoa! Wake-up! Wookiees win wild Week 1 war

Wake Island Wookiees 154.98, Switzerland Squirrels 132.40 — The Wake Island Wookiees went  13 regular season games in 2017 without a victory. In 2018, it took just one try to break that mark as they defeated the Switzerland Squirrels by 22. For the Wookiees, Drew Brees propelled the team with 34.88 points, Julio Jones cleaned up with 28.20 points, and Saquon Barkley gathered 24.40 points. For the Squirrels, the Jacksonville Jaguars flared up for 25.47 points, Tom Brady garnered 24.13 points, and Rob Gronkowski tallied 22.30 points. Next week: Wake Island will host San Juan and they open as a 26-point underdog. Switzerland will travel to Turkey and they open as a 20-point favorite.
