Tuesday Evening Kicker: 2017 Wild Card Recap

In the first round of the 2017 MFFL playoffs, both the regular season points leader and the team with the best overall record came out on the short end in their respective games. Top-seeded Turkey also advanced and Greenland squashed the Scorpions.

Russia maintains force in Ukraine: Renegades beat Grainers for third time in 2017

Russia Renegades 176.95, Ukraine Grainers 141.02 — Top-seeded Ukraine lost for just the fourth time in 2017, but it was the third loss against North Division rival Russia. Quarterback Carson Wentz scored 28.65 points to lead the Renegades before exiting the game with a torn ACL. Running backs LeSean McCoy (28.1) and Kareem Hunt (27.8) had strong performances in the win. Wide receivers Michael Thomas (27.7) and Demaryius Thomas (23.3) had good games as well. For the Grainers, wide receivers Jarvis Landry (24.6), Cooper Kupp (22.8) and Keenan Allen (17.1) had solid outings in the loss. Running back Melvin Gordon added 19.7 and quarterback Cam Newton finished with 19.12. The Renegades will advance to the NorthWest conference championship to take on Greenland.

Turkey outrun the Velociraptors: Top-seeded Jerky takes down Vietnam

Turkey Jerky 145.73, Vietnam Velociraptors 110.68 — Turkey advanced to the second round of the playoffs with a big victory over Vietnam. Wide receiver Davante Adams scored 30.4 points to lead the team to victory. Running back Kenyan Drake finished with 29.3 points and quarterback Alex Smith added 16.33. For the Velociraptors, quarterback Russell Wilson scored 22.28 points in the loss. Wide receiver Doug Baldwin finished with 16.9 points and running back Mark Ingram added 15.6. The Chicago Bears defense finished with 29.1. The Jerky will face Nagasaki in next week’s SouthEast conference championship.

Kamikazes cut down the Blitz: Another comeback victory for Nagasaki

Nagasaki Kamikazes 163.53, Bangkok Blitz 153.23 — The Kamikazes took down the 2017 MFFL points leader, Bangkok, with yet another strong performance from running back Le’Veon Bell (42.1) and from wide receiver Antonio Brown (32.3). Quarterback Drew Brees scored 20.93 points and running back Devonta Freeman added 19.9. For the Blitz, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins scored 34.9 points to lead the way. Running back Todd Gurley added 31.1 points and the Los Angeles Chargers defense finished with 26.5. Quarterback Josh McCown scored just 0.13 points before exiting with an injury and his loss cost wide receiver Robby Anderson. The Kamikazes will advance to the SouthEast conference championship against top seed Turkey.

Monsters upset the Scorpions: Greenland advances with win over San Juan

Greenland Monsters 139.77, San Juan Scorpions 75.28 — Karma for Kamara? Scorpions running back Alvin Kamara, the little engine that could, went off the rails as he exited the game early with a concussion and the Scorpions just couldn’t get their offense going from there. Running back Leonard Fournette scored 26.7 points to lead the Monsters to victory. Wide receivers Adam Thielen (22.6) and Mohamed Sanu (20.3) followed up with strong outings. The Jacksonville Jaguars defense finished with 16.4. For the Scorpions, wide receiver Alshon Jeffery scored 16.2 points in the loss. The Minnesota Vikings defense scored 16.1 and quarterback Kirk Cousins finished with 11.98. Greenland will face division foe Russia in the NorthWest conference championship next week.

Jerks knocked out by the Pharaohs: Egypt wins consolation game

Egypt Pharaohs 126.83, Jamaica Jerks 88.33 — In one of two consolation games, Egypt took down Jamaica behind 22.6 points from wide receiver Golden Tate. Quarterback Derek Carr added 15.03 and wide receiver Michael Crabtree contributed 15.1. For the Jerks, quarterback Philip Rivers led the way with 21.13 points. The Philadelphia Eagles scored 20.9 and running back Lamar Miller added 11.4.

Ewoks maintain supremacy over Wookiees: Ecuador keeps Wake Island winless

Ecuador Ewoks 125.68, Wake Island Wookiees 99.33 — The Ecuador Ewoks took down the Wake Island Wookiees for the second time this season. Quarterback Case Keenum scored 23.08 points in the victory. Tight end Jared Cook added 18.5 points and running backs Duke Johnson (16.1) and Alfred Morris (15.3) had strong games as well. For the Wookiees, quarterback Blake Bortles continued his string of strong games with 20.63 points. The Carolina Panthers scored 29.1 points and wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin added 12.8.
