Tuesday Evening Kicker: 2017 Week 13 Recap

The 2017 MFFL regular season is in the books as Week 13 drew to a close with one playoff spot and two division titles up for grabs. Nagasaki secured the East Division title with a victory over Vietnam. Turkey claimed the South Division crown by holding on for a tight victory over Ecuador. The Ewoks missed the final spot after Russia downed Wake Island. Bangkok took the #1 wild card in the SouthEast with a win over Egypt. Ukraine cemented the best record in the league by defeating Greenland. And Jamaica maintained control of the second-overall pick in the 2018 draft with a loss to San Juan.

Turkey jerks South crown from Bangkok, playoff spot from Ecuador

Turkey Jerky 142.05, Ecuador Ewoks 139.32 — The Turkey Jerky accomplished two feats in one 2.73-point victory: knocking the Ewoks out of the playoffs and securing the South Division title. Quarterback Alex Smith scored 36.15 points to lead the team to victory. The Baltimore Ravens defense added 30.6 points and tight end Travis Kelce finished with 25.4. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill finished with 36.5 points for the Ewoks to lead the way. Running back Alfred Morris added 24.1 and quarterback Case Keenum finished with 20.52. Turkey will take on Vietnam in the first round of the playoffs.

Caribbean Carnage: San Juan nearly doubles Jamaica

San Juan Scorpions 152.87, Jamaica Jerks 77.12 — In the battle of the Caribbean Sea, the tanking Jamaica Jerks were nearly doubled in points by San Juan. Running back Alvin Kamara (31.4), wide receiver A.J. Green (26.7), kicker Justin Tucker (18.5) and the Minnesota Vikings defense (18.6) were all instrumental in the victory. Quarterback Philip Rivers scored 22.42 points in the loss for Jamaica. Running backs Lamar Miller (16.4) and DeMarco Murray (12.1) also contributed in the loss. San Juan will take on Greenland in next week’s first round.

Air over land: Kamikazes zip past the ‘Raptors

Nagasaki Kamikazes 142.97, Vietnam Velociraptors 122.57 — Nagasaki stopped Vietnam’s three-game win streak and won the East Division title in the process. Running back Le’Veon Bell (32.8), wide receiver Antonio Brown (24.1), quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (21.27) and the Seattle Seahawks defense (23.3) all had big weeks. Quarterback Russell Wilson scored 25.87 points in the loss for Vietnam. Running back Mark Ingram had 27 and the Chicago Bears defense finished with 25. The Kamikazes will host the Blitz in the first round of the playoffs while Vietnam will take on Turkey.

Winners above replacements: Grainers lone team to hit double digit victories

Ukraine Grainers 172.35, Greenland Monsters 134.85 — The Grainers became the first — and only — team to hit double digit victories with their win over divisional foe Greenland. The Los Angeles Rams defense led the way with 33.4 points. Wide receiver Keenan Allen (26.5), quarterback Cam Newton (22.65) and running backs Melvin Gordon (18.4) and Christian McCaffrey (17.1) all had strong outings for Ukraine. As has been their way, the Jacksonville Jaguars led the Monsters with 32 points. Wide receiver Nelson Agholor added 27.1 and running back Leonard Fournette finished with 20.9. The Grainers will host division rival Russia in the first round of the playoffs while Greenland takes on San Juan.

Russian to the playoffs: Renegades secure final playoff berth

Russia Renegades 145.95, Wake Island Wookiees 94.6 — Paired with an Ewoks loss to Turkey, Russia earned the final playoff spot with a big victory over the winless Wookiees. The New England Patriots defense scored 33.3 points in the win. Tight end Rob Gronkowski (23.7), quarterback Carson Wentz (22.05) and wide receiver Michael Thomas (18) had strong performances. Quarterback Blake Bortles scored 28.1 points in the loss. Running back Latavius Murray added 15.9 points and the Carolina Panthers defensed finished with 13. The Renegades will face the Grainers in round one of the playoffs.

Score one for the points champ: Bangkok leads the pack

Bangkok Blitz 177.43, Egypt Pharaohs 123.17 — The Blitz led all teams in scoring in Week 13 — and became regular season points champion in the process — but fell short of the Jerky in pursuit of the South Division championship. Quarterback Josh McCown scored 35.83 points to lead the way. Wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald scored 25.8 points, running back Todd Gurley added 25.6 and the Los Angeles Chargers defense finished with 29. For the Pharaohs, running back Marshawn Lynch (23.5), quarterback Derek Carr (18.17), wide receiver Golden Tate (14.9) and the Oakland Raiders defense (26.3) were key contributors in the loss. The Blitz will take on the Kamikazes in round one of the playoffs.
