Tuesday Evening Kicker: 2017 Week 2 Recap September 19, 2017 Division matchups kicked off in Week 2 and points were plentiful. Ten of twelve teams scored more than 100 points this week and four of those teams scored more than 150. The Pharaohs of Egypt led all teams with a whopping 181.92 points. Just two teams remain unbeaten following Week 2’s action and only two teams remain winless — one of whom are the defending MFFL Champion Jamaica Jerks. That leaves eight teams with a .500 record at this early stage in the game. Wide receiver Mike Evans scored 22.3 points to help lead the Nagasaki Kamikazes to a victory over the Greenland Monsters. Crash and Burn: Kamikazes catch fire against Monsters Nagasaki Kamikazes 136.42, Greenland Monsters 97.65 — The Kamikazes struck early and held on to defeat the Monsters behind strong performances from quarterback Drew Brees (24.62), wide receiver Mike Evans (22.3) and running back Carlos Hyde (20.4). Nagasaki received some bad news when tight end Greg Olsen left the game early with a broken foot and could miss between 6-8 weeks of action. The Monsters were led by wide receiver Dez Bryant (18.9), running backs Leonard Fournette (16.9) and Tarik Cohen (13.3) and quarterback Matt Ryan (17.15). After a dominant, league-leading first week from the Jacksonville Jaguars defense, the Monsters just couldn’t get the same performance this week. Greenland received the lowest “coach” rating for the week after leaving quite a few points on their bench. The Kamikazes have a Week 3 divisional matchup against the Velociraptors while the Monsters take on North Division foe Russia. Running back Kareem Hunt (28.5 points) helped pave the way for a Renegades’ North Division victory over the Ukraine Grainers. Russia invades Ukraine, seizes control of the North Russia Renegades 156.7, Ukraine Grainers 140.3 — In a tightly-contested North Division matchup, the Renegades edged out the Grainers by 16.4 points to advance to 2-0 on the season. Led by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (32.1) — which signed just this week — the Renegades did it with defense and special teams. Kicker Chris Boswell scored 17.5 points while converting four of four field goals. Running back Kareem Hunt had another solid outing, scoring 28.5 points. After getting blanked in Week 1, tight end Hunter Henry added 15 in this matchup. All nine starters for the Grainers scored in double figures. Wide receivers Keenan Allen (19), Chris Hogan (18.8), and DeAndre Hopkins (14.3) were particularly strong for the Grainers. Running back Le’Veon Bell (18.5) and tight end Delanie Walker (16.4) helped contribute to the effort. The Renegades will play a second-straight divisional matchup when they take on the Monsters next week while the Grainers face off with the Wookiees. Ecuador Ewoks running back Lamar Miller scored 15.3 points in his team’s victory over the defending champion Jamaica Jerks. No Jerkin’ Around: Ewoks drop defending champs to 0-2 Ecuador Ewoks 114.78, Jamaica Jerks 102.48 — The defending champion Jamaica Jerks suffered a second-straight loss to open the season as they fell by 12 points to the Ecuador Ewoks. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers led the way for the Ewoks with 22.88 points. Running back Lamar Miller (15.3), kicker Matt Bryant (14.4) and wide receiver Jeremy Maclin (13.1) also had solid performances. The Ewoks left quite a few points on the bench when running back C.J. Anderson’s 35.4 points — second most in the MFFL for Week 2 — were left unaccounted for. Jamaica got solid games from tight end Rob Gronkowski (23.6) and quarterback Philip Rivers (21.98), but suffered due to five players finishing in single digits and failing to pull their weight. The Jerks received some bad news after the game, too, when second-year wideout Corey Coleman reportedly underwent surgery for a broken hand and is likely to go on Injured Reserve. The Jerks will try to break into the win column next week when they take on the Bangkok Blitz. The Ewoks will try to start a win streak when they face West Division rival San Juan Scorpions. Turkey Jerky advanced to 2-0 on the season following a 32.7-point performance from quarterback Tom Brady against the San Juan Scorpions. Someone pass the water, the Turkey Jerky is red hot! Turkey Jerky 170.1, San Juan Scorpions 108.27 — Look out for the Jerky! The 2016 runner-up brought down the 2016 winningest team by more than 60 points in their Week 2 battle. Turkey is now one of only two remaining unbeaten teams and have vaulted into first place in the power rankings. More than half of the Jerky’s starters scored over 20 points this week, including quarterback Tom Brady (32.7), Baltimore Ravens defense (31.3), running back Devonta Freeman (27.8), tight end Travis Kelce (24.3) and wide receiver Davante Adams (23.9). Wide receiver Randall Cobb contributed 13.2 points and averted disaster when an MRI revealed no major damage to the shoulder he injured in the game. He’s considered day-to-day. Scorpions running back Javorius Allen, whom the team signed to take the place of the injured David Johnson, did his best Johnson impression by leading the team with 23.9 points. Quarterback Kirk Cousins (14.77) and tight end Zach Ertz (14.7) followed behind Allen and wide receiver A.J. Green contributed 11.7 points as well. Unfortunately for the Scorpions, they left quite a few points on the bench when wide receivers J.J. Nelson (23) and Alshon Jeffery (22.2) left more than 45 points unaccounted for. Next week the Scorpions have a divisional battle with the Ecuador Ewoks and Turkey will attempt to stay undefeated when they face Egypt. Wide receiver Michael Crabtree racked up 32 points in the Egypt Pharaoh’s resounding victory over the Bangkok Blitz. Egyptian Tomb “Raiders” … Pharaohs pillage points vs. Blitz Egypt Pharaohs 181.92, Bangkok Blitz 116.52 — With more than half of Egypt’s starters representing the Oakland Raiders, the team saw an opportunity to exploit a matchup with the New York Jets, and they made good on that opportunity. Wide receiver Michael Crabtree (32), Oakland Raiders defense (27.7), quarterback Derek Carr (22.42), running back Marshawn Lynch (14.3) and kicker Giorgio Tavecchio (8.9) accounted for nearly 60% of the Pharaoh’s league-leading 181.92 points. But wait … the fun didn’t stop there. Tight end Jason Witten (25.7), wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (24.2) and running back Jay Ajayi (20.2) were integral pieces to the game plan as well. Meanwhile, the Blitz had a rough afternoon when starting wideout Jordy Nelson went down with a quad injury and missed most of the game. Running back Todd Gurley led the team with 28.8 points. The Cincinnati Bengals defense (27.1), quarterback Marcus Mariota (16.52), wide receiver Julio Jones (15.8), and rookie running back Christian McCaffrey (10) all scored in double digits. The Blitz have a Week 3 date with the Jamaica Jerks while the Pharaohs will try to roll their momentum into a showdown with the unbeaten Turkey Jerky. Vietnam running back Ty Montgomery’s 31 points helped propel the Velociraptors to a victory over the Wake Island Wookiees. “Chew” on this: Velociraptors shred the Wookiees Vietnam Velociraptors 159.55, Wake Island Wookiees 83.93 — Vietnam received five performances of more than 20 points in their 75.62-point victory over the Wookiees, the largest point differential of the week. The Arizona Cardinals defense (31.2), running backs Ty Montgomery (31) and Melvin Gordon (22.6), quarterback Russell Wilson (21.15) and wide receiver Jarvis Landry (20.3) led the way for the Velociraptors. The Wookiees struggled to find the end zone as wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin (13.7) and quarterback Blake Bortles (13.13) were the only non-defensive players to top double figures. The Carolina Panthers defense led the way with 31.2 points. Tight end Jimmy Graham (1.1) suffered an ankle injury and his status is in doubt. Next week the Velociraptors have a divisional battle with the Kamikazes while the Wookiees look for their first win when they take on Ukraine.
